What happens after I report a claim?

A claims professional will review your report and start the claims process. If you have any questions after completing your claims report, you can view your claim online or call our agency for assistance.

What should I do if suffer a property loss?

  • If necessary, protect your property from further damage by making reasonable temporary repairs. Keep a record of repair costs and be sure to keep your receipts.
  • Notify us.
  • If damage was caused by theft or vandalism, notify the police.
  • If your loss is related to a bank electronic fund transfer or credit card, notify your financial institution.

What should I do if I suffer a wind damage property claim?

  • Wind damaged houses can let water inside. If windows, doors or skylights have been broken, and it is safe to do so cover them with tarps or plywood to prevent rain damage inside your home. Be sure to save all repair receipts.
  • Don’t start permanent, major repairs or renovations until you have spoken with your claims associate.
  • Take inventory and retain any belongings that may have been destroyed or damaged, noting the brand, price and other details.
  • If safe to do so, take pictures of any damage. However, let your claims associate or roofing professional photograph roof damage.
  • If you have pictures of your home before the damage, include them with your insurance claim.

Water damage property claims:

  • If your home has been damaged by water, it’s critical to stop the source of the water and start cleaning it up immediately.
  • If the leak is from a burst water pipe or appliance, shut off the main incoming water valve to help minimize the damage.
  • If you can’t locate the leak or don’t know how to stop it, call a plumber. Please be sure to retain the failed component.
  • Report your claim to your insurance carrier. We’ll begin to process your claim and may dispatch a professional water damage clean-up service to your home.
  • If it’s safe to do so, mop up excess water. A wet/dry vacuum may also help. If you’re not sure whether the water contains sewage or toxic substances, wait for the professionals.
  • Protect your belongings, particularly wet and absorbent materials. The quicker items are removed, the less likely they are to be severely/permanently damaged.
  • Take inventory and photograph any items that may have been damaged, noting the brand, price, age and other details.
  • Don’t remove or lift flooring because doing so incorrectly could cause additional damage.
  • Keep anything that you suspect may have caused the leak.
  • Photograph damage and move personal property to a dry area.
  • Make a list of damaged items. Include their purchase date, value and any receipts.
  • Inventory the items you remove and organize them by what can be salvaged and what needs to be discarded. Your claims associate can help you with this. Please do not discard of any damaged items until speaking with your claims associate.

Hail damage property claims:

  • Report the claim to your insurance carrier. Please have your policy number handy, as well as your telephone number and/or email address.

What should I do after an auto accident?

  • Notify the police.
  • Collect the descriptions and specific damages to all vehicles, as well as the names and addresses of all people and witnesses involved.
  • Notify us with details of the accident, so we can begin the claims investigation.
  • Promptly send us copies of any letters, notices or legal papers you receive about the accident. You may be asked to submit documentation of your loss. If you were treated for injuries, you may be asked to submit that information as well.

What to do if someone hit my parked car?

  • Collect the other driver’s information if possible. This includes their name, contact information, an explanation of the accident, and their insurance company.
  • Talk to anyone who witnessed the accident and document their perspective.
  • Call the police to report the accident, even if no one was harmed.
  • Take photos to document any damage done to your vehicle or other property at the scene, as well as the other driver’s license plate and vehicle if they are still at the scene.
  • Lastly, report the claim to your insurance carrier. While the other driver’s insurance company should cover any damage done to your vehicle, as your insurance company we can help walk you through the process.
